Russia and the Late Emperor

Sir,—I do not know whether in this time of domestic danger you may feel inclined to publish a few words concerning Russia, and our Emperor Nicholas II., which I myself only learnt quite lately, but from a very authentic source.

I wonder whether vou know that Germany not only is willing to help Russia now, but that the Kaiser addressed himself more than once to the Emperor Nicholas, urging him to accept the German hospitality without hesitation. What the Emperor did unhesitatingly was to refuse that offer, determined as he was not to separate his fate from that of Russia. In a short time you will learn, I hope, many important facts, which will startle you and all your readers.

The other day I saw one of our brilliant colonels, Prince Lieven, decorated with the St. George’s Cross and other military distinctions, who is well known in Russia for his patriotic valour during the war with the Allies against Germany. I could not help looking with admiration at the way in which he bore his troublesome wound, received only lately from the Bolsheviks—a wretched reward for all his heroic deeds for Russia.

As a Greek Oitbodox, I may be permitted to add that our clergy by hundreds met their death at the hands of the present usurpers, bearing the Cross in the hand, answering in this way the diabolical threats of our cosmopolitan and atheistic brigands. These heroic clergymen were brought up in our seminaries, and thus prove the spark of divine fire which grew in their hearts at the very time which is contemptuously designated now as the ancient regime.

I never fancied it was possible to find a country where no mistakes are made, and would be grateful to any one who would introduce me to such a paradise.— Yours, etc.,
